Last month a number of MIS-AMS staff attended the IHP conference which this year, was held in Manchester. The conference rotates through four global locations: UK, Canada, USA and Australia. The IHP is a collaborative of more than 175 high-capacity nonprofits that collectively operate one million affordable homes and house more than 2.5 million people.

Over sixty chief executives from housing authorities attended to share best practices and discuss the issues they face collectively as a sector.

Together members of the IHP use private sector strategies to achieve ambitious social missions, resulting in high-quality affordable homes and thriving communities. Anchored in peer exchange among entrepreneurial leaders, members share innovations and seek common solutions to improve, adapt, and expand their businesses to better serve their communities.

Held over five days, the agenda for the conference touched upon issues including;

  • Opportunity and risks for transforming the sector
  • The future shape of the sector
  • Devolution and partnerships
  • Financing
  • Digitisation of the sector

“It’s a conference of huge importance and interest to MIS AMS. We help housing authorities digitise and learning about the challenges that face them directly from the leaders at the coal-face is invaluable insight,” explains Chris McLaughlin.

“It’s also interesting to hear how the rest of the world faces the problems head-on and deals with them within their locality – it helps generate ideas and is strategic food for thought.”
